Abstract

The aim of this study is to conduct a bibliometric analysis of the convergence between endogenous development and sustainable development, identifying trends, conceptual relationships, and emerging research areas from 2001 to 2025. Scopus was used as the data source, and the temporal evolution of scientific production, its distribution by countries and universities, the most active journals, the thematic structure of the field, keyword co-occurrence, density mapping, and the thematic map were analyzed. The results show that leading journals focus on sustainability, environmental management, and land use. Within the thematic mapping, motor themes included economic, rural, and endogenous development; basic themes included sustainable and rural development; niche themes included energy efficiency and renewable energies; and emerging or declining themes included social capital, land coverage, and multi-criteria analysis. Gaps in the integration of social and ecological indicators, as well as in the formation of innovation, participation, and urbanism clusters, were discussed. This study provides an integrated cartography of the field and guidance for future research agendas on multilevel governance, territorial capacity, and innovation under the assumptions of urbanization and climate change. A limitation is the current year (2025), which may result in underreporting. Finally, the practical implication of the study is to offer a guide for territorial (neo-endogenous) policies and strategies with a sustainability focus.
